Highlights of the 2024-2025 SAIFood Year

Share

Thank you, SAIFood Readers

At the end of every academic year, I am amazed by the productivity of the research team I lead. Over the past 10 months, we published 62 blogs. Eleven blogs were written by students last fall in my class as an assignment and they invested a bit of extra effort to get their blog assignment published. I want to thank these students for the quality of their assignment and for the extra effort they made to get their blog published. The remaining 51 blogs were contributed by our team.

Our blogs continue to be popular, with numerous of them republished by the Genetic Literacy Project and The Western Producer. The reaffirms that the topics we are writing about are relevant to current interests and are addressing important issues.

I’m pleased to be able to welcome a new member to our research team. Luiza Favaratto arrived just a few weeks ago, to begin a position as a post-doctoral researcher. Luiza is from Brazil and is excited by the move and the research we’re engaged with.

All of these blogs wouldn’t be possible were it not for my amazing staff and students. Chelsea, Kate, Judson, and Savannah have all contributed blogs over the past year. Claire has contributed blogs as well and has been responsible for publishing the content. A huge thank you to everyone on the team who all contribute to making SAIFood such a success.

We will be taking a break from publishing blogs over the summer months. We are the hosts of the International Consortium on Applied Bioeconomy Research which will be held next week. There will be excellent presentations from academics based in Europe, the USA, Latin America, and Australia. Over 70 individuals are expected to attend, creating an environment to learn about new biotechnology and bioeconomy research and to meet graduate students and academics from other universities.

Thank you to everyone who takes time to read our weekly blogs. We greatly appreciate your support!

On behalf of everyone at SAIFood, we wish everyone a relaxing and enjoyable summer!

New content will return in September 2025
